I wasn't sure what to expect from this series. I've read many different types of books, set in lots of different worlds and scenarios, but this is my first carnival/circus experience. And how fun it was! I'm really glad I gave it a shot.The story immediately sucks you in with the prologue. You can't help but feel for the characters. Then the real story begins. There's no real indication of just how long after the prologue the story takes place, but I did get the feeling it wasn't too long.We meet Melody. A smart girl who just wants to get away. So she joins a carnival, the only thing in her life she remembers being good. But childhood memories aren't always what they seem. Melody soon learns she'll make no friends at the show, except for maybe one. The man on stilts seems unlike the rest, but he's gruff, and mean, and she isn't sure what to make of him.This isn't an especially long read, but from start to finish, I couldn't put it down. I was enthralled by the story, much like one would be enthralled by the carnival. I can't wait to see how things go in the next book.
SO I bought this because I used to travel with a legit freak show. Not kidding. I had no idea there was shifter and fantasy stuff involved (don't roll your eyes, yes I judged a book by its cover) . . . which was a HUGE bonus because I love this stuff. It is quite the page-turner; I read the whole book in one sitting instead of sleeping! So look out for that. Ordering the next book NOW!
Paranormal-ish(has werewolves on world) Melody runs away from a not so pleasant home when she turns 18. Her only happy memory is of the carnival and she decide that's the place she want to work when her money runs out. Ther she meet this standoffish stilt performer named Stilts. *snickers* Quick read. Wasn't what I was expecting but it was very entertain. Mel and Stilts are super sweet. Hopefully the next book will answer some burning questions.
This story was interesting. I felt drawn to the girl, but didn't fully understand some of her actions. The story is well written but she basically raised her siblings but left them with alcoholic mom and revolving door of men. I get that she didnt have the means to take care of them on the road or away from her mom but it was like she barely had a 2nd thought about it. I loved Stilts. He is is such a great representative of his demographic and seeing Mel's reaction to his "quirks" was awesome. Reading book 2 asap!
Good story about a young 18 year old h who escaped from her awful home life and joined the circus. The circus might have sounded like fun, but of course it wasn't much safer for her. She's shown some kindness by a reticent circus performer, who protected her from some freaky people. The writing was good, the story flowed well and lured me into wanting to know more about these characters.
This was such a great book. I can't believe i have passed by this book so many times. I was pulled right in and felt like i was right there with them. That is the mark of a great author. They have the ability to describe everything so well that you feel you are in the story watching it unfold. I can not wait to read the rest of this series and more books by this author.
Melody was a average girl who lived the carnival, but growing up and being forced to take care of her siblings wasn't the life for her. As any normal teenager, she did the typical and ran away to join the circus. What she didn't expect to find was a companion who was part of the group
This book is the first in a series and left me eager for the second. It's filled with excitement, magic, love and loss, and so much more. You're sure to fall in love with the spitfire main character and some of the guys she meets along the way throughout her adventures.
