"Dieter Rams was born in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1932. In 1955 he began work at Braun, a company at which he became head of design in 1961, and at which he stayed until 1995. While there, he produced and oversaw some of the seminal products of the twentieth century, including radios, shavers and kitchen appliances. At the same time, he designed furniture for a small company, Vitsoe + Zapf (later Vitsoe), which is still in production today. In addition to his work as a designer and design manager, he is well known as a lecturer and for his "ten commandments" of good design, which advocate innovative, useful and durable products.Sophie Lovell was born in London. After graduating from Chelsea College of Art & Design, she moved to Berlin in 1994. She is an artist, designer, writer, art director, consultant and has been a long‐term contributing editor and the German editor of Wallpaper* magazine. She is the author of several books including Limited Edition: Prototypes, One‐Offs and Design Art Furniture, This Gun Is for Hire and Furnish – Furniture and Interior Design for the 21st Century.Dr. Klaus Kemp is the Head of Exhibitions at the Frankfurt Museum of Applied Arts. He was previously head of the culture department of the city of Frankfurt, and of the municipal galleries located in the former Karmeliterkloster (Karemliter Monastery) and the Leinwandhaus. It has his history, it has detailed descriptions about the work, it has full and detail shots of the products, it has his codified design philosophy... It's a big, thick, beautifully designed book. Fellow designers, don't you just love books that are well bound, have beautiful layouts, artful typography and big, beautiful color photos? Yeah, me too. This has all of that.Frankly, I wish all my art books were this good and cost this little. This is a $150 art book. I don't know how they're selling it for less.Could not be happier.
A brief disclaimer: I am not a connoisseur of German design, or of Dieter Rams in particular, I just love industrial and product design. That being said, I am very much enjoying this book. It's gorgeously typeset, on beautiful paper, and the images are well chosen and represent Rams' work very well (IMO). It's a great book to just page through and discover some inspiration when you need it, and looks very smart on the shelf.A quick note about the binding: I haven't seen many books with a binding this nice. Very sturdy, functional, but with a gorgeous and subtle texture. If you appreciate beautiful craftsmanship, I'd wager you'll appreciate this book.

Several books about Braun Design and Dieter Rams have appeared in recent years. To my knowledge, this Phaidon volume is the most comprehensive and detailed. The books I have purchased in the past were mostly comprised of black and white photographs accompanied by texts in German and English. This book, written entirely in English extensively chronicles Dieter Ramshistory and his involvement with Braun AG. With a forward written by Jonathan Ive, probably the designer most indebted to the mid century design of Braun AG, this book shows howthe industrial designs of Dieter Rams and Braun AG have come to influence industrial designers in the time of the 2000s. The first Jo Klatt book, Braun+Design Collection has extensively pictured virtually every Braun product made, but the text is German. Less but Better, also by Klatt is written in German and English, and it recounts the rich history of Dieter Rams and Braun. However, after acquiring and reading it, I wished to know more and see more. The Phaidon book is satisfying. There are many photographs of the quintessential Rams designs, and many are in color. Also included are surprising photographs of shelves in storage rooms at Braun AG stacked with successive versions of various product. The book is beautifully designed and printed. The cover is cleverly embossed with a texture reminiscent of a Braun razor. Should one want a single book about this important desingner, Dieter Rams: As Little Design as Possible is the book to have.

Not sure how I found this little gem but glad I did. New to me author who writes clever, intelligent prose with wit, snark and emotion. Declan (Dec) is a cop. He's reeling after the end of his marriage to Christine. He's assigned to an undercover case to act as a customer in a gay club where patrons have been roofied and then robbed. At first he balks, thinking that his captain knows something about him that he hasn't yet come to grips with. At the club he meets Tupper. Tupper fits the profile of the robber but things are not as they seem. This was lovely and went in a direction I wasn't expecting. We learn a lot about Dec's backstory and what we find out is heartbreaking. At first it seems as though the case takes a back seat, but no, it does not. Great writing, good banter. Lots of lovely smexy bits, too. Looks like the author only has one other book available, a paranormal F/F. Faes and shifters not really my cuppa. So now off to stalk social media for any info about Kellum...
voluntary review of arcIn Another Country by Kellum Jeffries is a fast-paced book I was in love with.Dec, he is a detective he has to go to a gay bar to find a perp who is picking up men, robbing them and beating them up. Dec has gone through a divorce, drinking, and not having his stuff together. Now he is trying to do better. I liked that about him he is flawed makes him more real to me.Tupper finds Dec. He thinks he is drunk and helps him home. Only to find out he has picked up a detective who is not drunk. I liked Tupper he is a good person, and he does the right thing. He is a Mounty what is there not to love about a sexy Mounty.I loved this story. This is my first time reading anything by this author and I will be looking for them again. I want more! Five Shooting Stars
Oh, this is just such FUN. Smart cops in love and conflict, striking sparks off one another at work and at play. Companionship and clever banter, self-realization and hot (hot!) sex, a bit of a mystery and some personal history, with a keen sense of place at work and an HEA to top it all off. Kellum Jeffries' writing, smart and snarky, brings Declan and Tupper vividly to life. Not to be missed, y 'all.

Rosiak covers a lot of players and a lot of events over the course of his two-year investigation, but he guides the reader effortlessly in a narrative that reads like a spy novel.This is a must-read book for anyone looking for a behind-the-scenes expose on how the Swamp subverted justice to serve their own interests. The more people that know the truth, the better.
You should not read this book because it happens to support conclusions that are useful to Trump. Yes, Luke Rosiak works for a right leaning outfit and doesn't hide his own views in this book. But, the ENGAGING and SHOCKING narrative of this book stand solidly on fact and sound journalistic practice. Luke writes with surprising empathy to the Democratic victims and staffers, who are clearly in a massive political bind. It is the lack of diligence, the lack of courage, and the willingness to turn a blind eye in the interest of the swamp by REPUBLICANS that drives all of the poignancy of this story. Some spoilers: Luke doesn't draw any conclusions about whether the deep state within the FBI and the Swamp staff are colluding. He simply doesn't have the data. Likewise, the impact to national security of the Awan breach goes unplumbed-- apparently by anyone. In Washington, even the temporary alignment of political and personal interest can create strange bedfellows. Maybe that happened here, when Republicans not wild about Trump, staffers desperate to protect the interest of members without ever even considering the broader national security implications, and a Blue Wall which formed to hide a dropped ball on what ultimately was revealed to be a case of importance came together in BREATHTAKING suppression of action that should have been taken in interest of the public? Many are frustrated that the Awans escaped justice and that whatever DWS was hiding was never revealed. But the most important chapter here is the epilogue. This is not a story about suppressing an incident but quietly cleaning up. In the end NOTHING changed. Whether because of petty personal power, or to protect crooked politicians who remain at risk from other Awan types who are still on the network, the swamp and their press enablers successfully made the whole thing completely go away -- if it were not for this book.

I read this book in three days, quite a feat given it's over 300 pages, it was mid-week and I'm a busy guy. Well written, edge of your seat stuff.If you ever had any doubt that our political system is corrupt, this book will fully erase it. The level of self-preservation of the "servants" in our political system is epidemic, and there are more cowards in our house of representatives then not. Even the members not directly involved in this treason were more than happy to protect their political counterparts across the isle in a warped display of alliance.Democrats and Republican voters alike should read this book carefully and decide to start reading between the lines of what their representatives seem to be up to. If this book is any indication of their true behaviors, we're getting royally screwed. All we can hope for is that the POTUS is actually able to drain that swamp, because it desperately needs to happen. All that's left to do in the meantime is pray that it does happen, for the sake of our country and our grandchildren.

TOC needsThis guide is packed full of useful information a beginner can absorb, and, it's not just aimed at academic writers preparing technical documents or thesis loaded with complex equations. I particularly liked the introduction to the concepts behind LaTeX, why it was created, how to install it (Windows, Mac or Linux Distributions), then slowly easing into basic formatting and organization. It covers the most important packages to know about for creating Professionally Typeset looking print, for example Microtype, Geometry etc... It focuses more on Environments, Sectioning, Formatting, Class Types and general Organization before getting jumping headlong into Equations, Tables, Graphics, etc. etc. But, it might take a while to see by glancing over the Table of Contents.What I didn't care for was the table of contents. It's overwhelming with too much useless detail. The TOC points out repeatedly that every chapter has a Time For Action, What Just Happened, Summary and Pop and Quiz sections without saying anything specific (many chapters have numerous Time For Action and What Just Happened sections) That just makes the TOC difficult to skim over to find the crucial section you might need at a given moment. So, I'd recommened that they Fix it in a revision.That being said, this is the best, most concise guide I've seen yet on scripting LaTeX.
This is a suitable book for absolute beginners. But it hardly scratches the surface of typesetting mathematics (and other STEM) material, especially complex expressions. There are plenty of downloadable tutorials and guides for using LaTeX for mathematical expressions.
I looked at any single review of the offered similar titles in Amazon and decided to purchase this one. I am happy. Here are my reflections:1. Great size, so a serious reader can read and practice it in less than a week and become a working LaTexer!2. The chapters are incremental3. To the extent I practiced it the examples are all correct and working4. Full of examples that can solve the problemsAre there LaTex problems that have not been addressed by this book? Of course. There are so many subtle ones that one needs to search internet to get a good handle on them.I recommend the book to all beginners.

Excellent supplementary guide to the LaTex User Manual, which you should print off and get bound.
This is a good reference on Latex. It could have been organized better.
