During the holidays, I love to read a good Christmas romance. I’ve found that some are too short, too cheesy, or poorly written. So, I was so glad that this book was just right!I loved the characters and the emphasis on the importance of family and community. I appreciated the fact that the characters had morals and integrity. I loved that true friendship was so important to all the characters.Was the plot predictable? - yes. Did it matter? - no. I just enjoyed and appreciated this “feel good†story - keeping the perfect mood during the holidays!
I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of love in it which is so often lacking in our world today. The characters were great and I fell in love with Papa and Nana. Papa had died three years earlier but Jenny brought him to life for her readers - what magic! Joe's character was great - such a gentleman. I felt all through the book that he was the right person for Holly. I would recommend this book to all. Good clean entertainment. I will certainly read more by Jenny Hale.

Whilst some recipe books can get away without recipe pictures, I personally believe that photos in a kid's recipe book are essential. Kids are very visual and they need to see what the end result could look like. The photos included in this book are fun and colorful, there just aren't enough of them hence one star deducted.The recipes are VERY easy to read and in a larger than normal font. The number of cupcakes at the top of each recipe indicate how easy or hard the recipe is:1 Cupcake - Easy * 2 Cupcakes - Moderate * 3 Cupcakes - HardBaking Basics are covered in Chapter 1 and this chapter does have several photos. We then get into the recipes which are in the following categories:Cookies, Bars etc. * Muffins and Quick Breads * Cakes, Cupcakes and Frosting * Pies and Tarts * Savory and Salty Breads and SnacksWritten for 6-12 years I believe that this book is suitable for that age range. Obviously the younger the child, the more help they are going to need in the kitchen. IMPORTANT TO NOTE that the recipes in this book use what some may consider unhealthy ingredients: sugar, all-purpose flour etc. HOWEVER it does teach the child to cook mostly from scratch rather than using a box mixture, using a variety of skills. There are a good variety of recipes in this book albeit no main meals included.At the end you will find conversion tables, difficulty index and regular index. SO if you are looking to teach your child some of the basics in the kitchen this may be a good book to start with. If you prefer using healthier ingredients start with the basic recipe and show them how to substitute some of the ingredients. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher.
