This tiny book is a jewel. This is the second copy of the book that I purchased to give as a gift. The water color illustrations are inviting and beautifully executed. Any one who knows downtown Savannah will recognize some of the gates and gardens and those planning to visit the city will enjoy the guided tour and narrative the book provides. What a dreadful loss that this dear little book is no longer in print.
The combination of the exquisitely painted gates as illustration with the well-researched and intriguing facts about each gate make this book a simple MUST on any serious walking tour of the area. Ms. Cadorette's work is breathtaking; my only regret is the book is not larger to truly enjoy the love so obviously put into these paintings. She has made the already beautiful Savannah even more so, by carefully merging artistic creativity and local knowledge. After taking the walking tour myself, I would love to thank her for enriching my whole experience. (And for being so gracious as to sign my copy!)
A smallish sized yet quality paper and production book, Gates of Savannah is interesting reading, in that it tells the story behind each gate, including the craftsman who fashioned it. I especially wanted the book for the beautifully painted pictures of each gate. I love wrought iron, and the writer/artist captured some of the most beautiful gates and surrounding gardens we saw on our vacation to Savannah.
The author inserts some political opinions that are not relevant to her tour of gates. She also makes a few errors of fact in history. However, the paintings are lovely and it's fun to walk around with the book and look at the actual gate with the painting in hand. I take photographs, too.
This book is a great little guide book for a leisurely stroll thru the streets of Savannah. The artwork is very detailed and exquisite! These paintings catch the iron work gates and their surroundings during various times of the year. (A personal favorite is the house at Forsyth Park at Christmas time...)For those that live in Savannah, this is a great book to have on hand for your guests to use for a stroll around town. A great way to spend a few hours on a spring day to work up an appetite for all the great restaurants and pubs. (helps make room for those sinful desserts available all around town!)
This book is simply amazing. The pictures in here make you feel like you're standing in front of the gates of Savannah! There is even a little map inside the book so that, when you venture to Savannah, you can see all of the gates yourself! The history of the gates keeps me going back to this book again and again. You should definatley get this book!

I read True Devotion twice over the past several years because of the popularity of the book, and I felt it was an extravagant and exaggerated view of the importance of the Blessed Virgin. After more reading of classic Catholic literature, returning to this excellent theology completely took hold of me. It is a sure way to Christian perfection, and I have now made the consecration to Jesus through Mary. Anyone who reads this treatise receives the Apostolic Benediction of Saint Pope Pius X. The other books in the collection clarify and explain True Devotion and the theology of St. Louis de Montfort generally. This is life changing reading if you take it in a simple, open way with pious faith. I am so moved by this collection that I am immediately going to read all the books a second time to be sure they are well incorporated into my life. To say it is worthwhile reading does not do justice to this collection of books for almost no money. Catholic Way Publishing is doing a great service for the Christian community.Update: I have read the books a second time and my spiritual life has been transformed.
I have been greatly inspired by Saint Louis de Montfort's devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary. In this collection we learn from him about the incredible 'Treasure of God' that is the ever virgin Mary. If you want to know what Mary is to you, read this collection. You will be eternally grateful, as I was. Father Roy of " Our Lady of The Island " Shrine in Eastport, Long Island, NY recommended to me the writings of St. Louis de Montfort, and I purchased this book as a consequence. I am now purchasing another copy for friend. Consecrate your life and all you possess spiritually and materially to Our Blessed Lady for she is the surest way to her Divine Son.I would remind everyone that the Israelites upon reaching the 'Promised Land' were commanded by God to take the land from the inhabitants, and the most formidable of them all was the city of Jericho. The Israelites marched around the city for 7 days with the Arc of The Covenant leading them. On the 7th day they marched 7 times around the city, blew the Trumpets and the walls of their enemy fell to them. The New Arc of the New Covenant will defeat the far greater and more formidable enemy when we follow her against the forces of evil, for God has willed that it be so. This collection of books will prove invaluable in every aspect of your life.
This is the best purchase I have ever made in my life. It is written so well that even I, a lowly servant of the Lord, can understand it. I have come to realize that our Blessed Mother MUST play a more significant role in our lives. I am so happy I found this book and I wish I could write a review of it that is worthy. Just be assured you will NOT be disappointed if you purchase it, for the rewards for reading it are phenomenal.
A classic. First review I've ever written. There is so much in this book to help us, and it offers us the sweetest way to know Jesus more, which is through the Blessed Mother Mary. St. Louis de Montfort gives a very clear presentation, stating that, in order for Jesus to come to us, He chose to submit Himself to, and depend upon, his Mother; therefore, it stands to reason that, in order for us to come to Him, we would submit ourselves and depend upon the Blessed Mother as well. After all, Jesus could have chosen any manner in which to appear on earth; He could have simply appeared. But He, God, chose to be borne of and become entirely dependent as a child upon Mary. And as Jesus Himself said, we are to become as little children in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven -- “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." -- Matthew 18:3. In this book, St. Louis de Montfort gives many more reasons for us to grow close to Mary. I hope to re-read and re-read this book for the remainder of my time on the planet. If this was the chosen way for St. Pope John Paul II and for Blessed Mother Teresa (to name a few) to devote themselves more fully to Jesus, it is certainly a fine way for me. An excellent literary companion, after the Scriptures and the Catechism. I hope and pray that this review was of help to you. Come and see! St. Louis de Montfort, pray for us.
this should be required reading for all Catholics. If the last 8 popes have read it and recommend it , then it must have a profound effect on all who read it . It did for me.
There are 2 main anthologies of St. Louis' writing out there, and this is one of them. Glad to have found it. Item arrived in good time, too.
Saint Louis de Montfort is the best writer on the subject of Mother Mary. This collection of books is very helpful. I recommend it for all Catholics.
St. Louis Marie de Montfort is truly the patron of the Rosary and the greatest author of Marian literature there has ever been.We are so blessed to have his writings so available!

Good reading a gift for my son.
This book was a very good read and simple to understand. This is coming from a person who is not an avid reader and I was able to read this book in about two days. I would recommend this to anyone who is just becoming a deacon. This book also furthered my trust in my pastor's ability to teach because he used some of the same scriptures in our ordination service.
Author, Marvin Mcmickle, provides us with a clear and proper of interpetation of scripture in his book. Not only do we come away understanding the how's and why's of the Diaconate's history, we now know what we should be doing today. The chapter on whether women should serve in ministry is outstanding, and will move many minds and hearts into the 21st century.
Excellent read. This was recommended by my Pastor and well worth the purchase
Very clear, concise with great examples to illustrate what a deacon is. Great if you have questions about the role of a deacon in a black baptist church.
