As a 7th generation Clan mother of the wild turkey clan, Conoy Nation having knowledge of the Grandfather people “Lenape†is very sacred journey for me. We are one family.
My husband is one quarter Lenape and three quarters German. He grew up hearing a few stories from his Grandmother but she didn't know a lot of her own people's history. He's always been interested in knowing more about his heritage. We moved to New Jersey, near the Raritan River and imagine our suprise when we realized that he'd moved very near to one of the places his people once lived in. I got him this book for Christmas and we LOVED it. We read about Rainbow Crow and Nanapush. He read to me every night in bed, the stories of his people. We found much to be sad over but much more to be joyful for. Whenever we see a Crow now, we smile and we look at eacother. This is a highly recommended book for anyone interested in the history and stories of the Lenape People.
The Grandfathers Speak: Native American Folk Tales of the Lenape People is a marvelous small book: it preserves important historical and pre-colonization information about the people who lived in the core of the United States east coast Megalopolis (Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware). The people the Europeans called Indians appear to have lived a relative peaceful life in harmony with nature for thousands of years. The outline of their history is dramatically altered for the worse as Europeans flooded the land. Unlike peoples of Europe and Asia the pressures of population growth were apparently not as great; therefore the stimulus for competitive technological development was apparently less. Advances in weapons, agriculture and medicine occurred at a much slower rate, nevertheless the Neolithic culture outlined in this book was much more advanced and civilized in many ways then it is portrayed in popular media (especially in mid-twentieth century). I was surprised to learn details of the history of the Lenape people I had never learned of before: my eyes were opened to many more negative effects brought about by the arrival of the colonists. The Grandfathers Speak: Native American Folk Tales of the Lenape People has become an epiphany for me and has lead me to acquire and read several more books about the Lenape people such as:William Penn and the Founding of Pennsylvania: A Documentary History, 1683 by Albert Cook MyersThe Indians of New Jersey: Dickon Among the Lenapes by M. "Little Felted Dogs: Easy Projects for Making Adorable Pups" by Soari Yamazaki is an adorable little book that shows readers how to create their own little felted dogs!It features 24 different types of dogs to felt, and a short introduction to Needle Felting Basics which includes instructions such as:"What is Needle Felting?""Basic Materials and Tools""Felting Toolbox""Basic TechniquesThe author explains what type of needle is needed and why it's important to get the right kind. She also gets into the different types of Wool and what types work best for each project.The different projects range in difficulty. For example, the Golden Retriever puppies appear to be easier than the Pug Puppy. For each felted dog, there is a recipe for items needed. It lists the color of wool you will need for the body, ears and tail, as well as the colors you will need for the body. It also mentions any other supplies you might need such as glass eyes or pipe cleaners.The instructions are pretty detailed, explaining how to construct the dog, what sizes to aim for, and sometimes listing small notes which give helpful tips on how to make the felted dog look more like an actual dog.All in all, I thought this was a fantastic book for the price. It's hardcover makes it durable and easy to work with when creating a project, and it includes plenty of projects to stay busy for awhile! This book would be excellent for tweens on up to adults. I think it will be a fun project that my daughter and I can do together. Another aspect of this book that I really enjoyed was the fact that you don't need to buy a ton of supplies to get started. This book is SO cute. I've done other needle felting projects in the past, including a three-dimensional meerkat, panda, and penguin. Let me begin by admitting that needle felting is one of my least favorite crafts. There are so many hours that go into needle felting, that most people who look at your finished craft won't even begin to realize. In fact, probably the biggest surprise of this book, for me, is how large the dogs are (larger than any needle felted critters I've made before). Larger equals more work. That being said, once you're done you'll really have something to be proud of.This book is cute even for the adorable photos of the author's creations, but I bet you're wondering more about the instructions, right? If so, they're pretty good. It's kind of hard to give instructions on how to needle felt, because it's almost like making something out of clay in that you can't give exact instructions as you can with a crocheting, knitting, or sewing project, or something similar. How the critter turns out is very dependent on the skills of the crafter.However, I do think that it could have been made easier for beginners by doing a couple of things:(1) Photos. As I made a dog, I kept wishing I could see it from lots of different angles. I ended up doing a web image search to see more about how a Westie's hair looks, for example. It would have been good to see photos not only of Yamazaki's dog creations from many angles, but also the real-life dogs they are based on. This issue is easily resolved just by going on a search engine, but it would be nice if the book contained more photos.(2) Life-sized charts. Not life-sized of real dogs! :) But of the projects. There are charts in the book, but they're not sized at 100%. I think that if they were, this would be a huge help for beginners, as they could place their felted shapes directly on the book in order to make sure they're getting the dimensions exact.I'm the type of person who thinks that if you're going to be a good needle felter, all you need are photos of what you're trying to make. That being said, this books has really cute ideas that even an experienced needle felter might not think of (such as how the toy poodle's coat is achieved). And it's cute just to look through, and see the cute creations.Tip: If you just need a tiny bit of wool, you can use 100% wool yarn. I did this for the nose and ears' interiors. Begin by cutting a length of yarn and pulling the ply apart, then fluffing it until it separates. You can then use it as you do the felting wool.I've included some pics of the westie I made. I used what I had on hand (100% natural wool without other shades removed), so he kind of looks like he's in need of a bath.
Could have used more step by step photos for each dog breed, not just general body shaping. This is "just ok" for very beginners.

The book has easy to follow instructions with pictures of many different breeds of dogs you can create with needle felting.While the book is small in size it's a treasure trove of knowledge for beginners or advanced artists.If you enjoy felting small items, specifically dogs you will love this book!

I generally really like these read along storybooks. My 3yo loved them and is totally independent with them, so it's great for mom - time. However some thoughtless person decided that this box set should include not just one CD for all 4 books, but one track. !!! You can't skip to the story you want, you literally have to fast forward and guess. It's awful. I cannot recommend this as a boxed set.
Books are great but all four stories are on one CD and on one track. You can not skip through the CD to get to the next story. 46 minutes long and my daughter didn't want to wait to get to the story she wanted. We have other read along storybooks and the kids love them. Go with the single stories. Husband is breaking the track into the four stories and putting on a new CD so she can skip to the story she wants.
Books are great, the cd is the problem. We gifted this to our daughter for her birthday which sadly was a week or two past the return date. We have many read along books so I assumed it was 4 cds; one for each book. This was a bad assumption. We literally have to fast forward on my daughter's CD player to get to Cinderella. It is difficult to do on her CD player that I can't see the audio time. I'd return it if I could. I won't be buying any more read along sets ever again. My toddler doesn't like the process of sitting while we try to fast forward or rewind to get to a book.
The box is nice, the books are very nice, and the cd LOOKS nice.... until you go to play it. It's a single CD with all the stories in one continuous track.... meaning trying to find the beginning of a story that's in the middle of the CD will make you want to die in a fire. Would it have absolutely killed the designers to separate the stories into 4 tracks? For those of you looking for a fix, it's not hard, but a little annoying.... anyway, here's what I did. I popped the CD in my computer and ripped it to my hard drive. Then I used a music editing program to clip out the individual stories into separate files and burn them to a blank CD as separated tracks (or you could burn them as single stories to separate discs). It's the long way around, but a little headache saved me a ton of headache day in and day out.
As others have already mentioned, all 4 stories are on one track! Of course my daughter wanted to listen to The Little Meemaid first, so I had to FF passed the other 3 stories. Not that bad once, but every time she just wants to listen to one story?? Ridiculous. It would have been so easy to make it 4 tracks.
I don't like that the CD doesn't come with case and all four stories are on 1 track so can't change stories. The books are better quality thicker paper than the ones bought separately. The cardboard case with velcro is nice to store the books. Stories are great, seems they used quotes from movies.
The book contains a variety of four different princess stories for little girls. My grand daughter just loves it!
The books are all good. As others have said, the problem is the CD, which is all one track. My granddaughter loves the read along books, but she wants to decide what to read and listen to. That's impossible with this product.
