Diagrams were helpful; more basic explanations and mini hypos than what you would find in a hornbook.
I always use crunch time for my exams! The chapters are so helpful and the condensed summaries really bring out the important points. I also like the mix of multiple choice and short answer questions in the back.
My Evidence prof uses the non-Crunch Time version of this Emanuel's in lieu of a textbook. The other version is too long and not worth it, this is all you need.
Absolutely love this book. I was able to have open book and notes for my exam and I brought this book into the exam room and I was able to find everything I need. In the back of the book you can look each rule up by its number and it shows you every page it is on. I love the exam tips for each topic towards the end of the book. I would highly recommend this book for a study aid.

I've always been a fan of pool. I don't mean that I'm a beginner, but that I watched pool when I didn't play pool just to visualize patterns. Now that I'm playing in the APA (strong 5 first season, probably 6 soon with this book or 7 or join BCA with deliberate practice), I'm looking for an experienced view of the game. This book is that veteran who's saying exactly what he's thinking, giving you the inside scoop on each game (straight, 8, 9, one pocket).My pattern play is weak, but after reading the 8 ball strategy in this book, I feel like I gained a wider perspective. I have the bryne books (standard and 350), but I had a feeling they were just collections of shots. There is explanation in the standard book of bryne's, but probably not much on the strategy I'm looking for. I can browse bryne books for shots to try, but don't expect to find the 'why.'
I owned this book when I was a teenager and lost track of it. I'm glad to have it back in my library as I believe it is one of the best books on playing position pool.
This book is full of useful information. The only drawback is that it was written over thirty years ago, so does not include any of the rule changes that have occurred since then. Still well worth reading.

An easy read, but surprisingly coherent considering all the disparate threads of stories that constitute the Greek Myths. A good decent read especially for someone with more than a passing interest but less than an academic one.
I was disappointed that this book uses the short-sentence, monosyllabic-word style that I associate with the most jejune and dumbed-down elementary school textbooks. For very elementary readers, or readers just getting started in English as a second or third language, this text is just difficult enough. For intelligent readers with good reading skills at a fourth grade level or higher, I suggest W.H.D. Rouse's treatment instead: it does not spoon-feed or talk down to the reader, and is written in a livelier but far more erudite style that asks a bit more of the reader but delivers far more reward in return.
Heroes, Gods and Monsters of the Greek Myths offers easy-to-read, easy-to-understand stories about the great Greek myths. I don't find many textbooks approachable and sort of gave up on finding an understanding of classical Greek stories. This book was the remedy; I'm glad I found it.
I really like this book. It was easy to understand. The stories transitioned seamlessly and it was interesting. The only drawback is the size of the book. It is the size of a pocket manual which means that the words are much smaller and it doesn't leave you much free space to write in the margins. This picture should give you an idea of the size. For the price, a larger book would have been more appropriate. The size isn't necessarily a problem but the picture is misleading.
I have ordered and purchased many mythology books. My 9 year old is interested in mythology and has read numerous books. After purchasing this book, I can say it not only holds adults, but it captures children as well. My 7 year old highly active and bouncing off the walls can't wait till I read him another story from this book. He sits through them all. He longs to hear more. I don't believe the author meant for his book to be read by children, it holds them captive as well. Out of all the books I have on mythology, this is one I recommend. It doesn't becoming boring, there is no skipping through pages, skimming through chapters, etc. It tells the stories well and holds you there.
I bought this book based upon the description and the author's purpose. The author intended to write as close to the original Greek language as possible, and it shows. It is by turns clear, funny and engaging. I have used this very successfully with gifted and talented students, and highly recommend it.

I would read this before class to help understand the concepts and flow of the immune system. This book covers all the main topics of Immunology: Innate and Adaptive, transplantation, autoimmunity and hypersensitivity. It also has a clinical aspects of immunology chapter.What this book is lacking is a more complete disorders listing. While it does use certain disorders as an example of a process, I found myself having to reference several other books to get a complete list of immunological disorders.That being said, I love all of the lippincott series, and brag about them to my fellow medical students. They are the reason I am still passing!
I got this book because I do biostatistics for a living and I needed a book to help me understand the biology behind the projects I am working on. I am *very* happy with this book. The writing is excellent, the graphics are wonderfully clear, the tables are useful and the glossary and index are both good. As a bonus there is the right amount of white-space on the pages to allow me to take notes. The writing is fairly dense but there is enough repetition that it is not an overly difficult read. If you want to learn about the mechanisms and hardware of the immune system this is an excellent buy.

I was looking for a distraction, and this came up on my recommendations. I'm a big Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan (Sr.) fan. However, there were times in this book where it felt like acronyms were being thrown around just because some writing formula required a certain number be used. It was a little difficult to keep track of the plot in a few places, and was surprised to look down at one point to see I was 90%+ done with the book and all the story lines were a long way from finished. The ending felt rushed, and frankly, unsatisfying.All in all, a good book. As I suspect there will be more 'Tom Clancy' novels, will likely have to pay a bit more attention to the actual writer to determine if worth buying at full price, or wait for a sale/borrow from the library.
This may be the worst author they have used for the Clancy series. He fills up the book with unnecessary descriptions and, especially, explanations of occurrences in past novels. It seems that he is writing this with the goal of catching readers up on everything that has previously happened to each of the characters, which only detracts from following the current plot line. Then after pages and pages of disconnected writing the author realizes he must end the book...and it ends. Mark Greaney is the best they have used and they should move back to him.
Very disappointing. Yes, all the normal characters are in the book. But, who are they? Nothing like the TC characters from previous books. And what about the plot? It's difficult to follow with all the subplots and the book jumps around from subplot1 to subplot2 to the plot, then back to a subplot. The subject matter is very dark (child pornography) and much more graphic violence than expected. This book does not follow the the typical TC genre. I could not finish it.
Long time reader of the TC series.. I'm so disappointed with the quality (or lack thereof) in this book. The book bounces back and forth between unrelated subplots that, while the book tries to establish a link, have nothing to do with each other. Additionally, there are so many mini-plots that only last a few chapters and are built up for a climax that never happens. You just read to the end of the chapter and think "oh, that's it?" Meanwhile, the main character's who've grown and develop over the years have reverted back to their prior lives. Clark breaking all the rules because he's angry about how a girl was treated. Jr falling for a girl involved in the other subplot. I've grown to love these characters and Cameron didn't due the series justice. These books are certainly going downhill since Greaney left...
I can't believe I'm leaving such a negative review for the latest book in the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan storyline, but this one is just so painfully written. Usually I devour the latest book in a weekend, as I'm unable to put it down, but this one is so boring and disjointed and does nothing to further the established and beloved characters... It's been over a month and I'm forcing myself to try to read 10-15 pages at a time, just so I can get it over with.Compared to Mark Greaney's "True Faith and Allegience" this one falls way, way short, I'm sorry to say.
After being underwhelmed by the previous book in the series under the new writers, I went into this one with very low expectations. And I was pleasantly surprised. The story is reasonably complex, with multiple strands that slowly develop, and there is an immense level of detail, indicating that author Marc Cameron clearly did extensive research for this book and put a lot of effort into it. The plot involves China, but it isn't a re-hash of Threat Vector or The Bear and the Dragon. The usual characters are written well, and the new characters are interesting. Much of the book's action takes place domestically, which is a nice change of setting for a Clancy novel, and John Clark (who, realistically, needs to retire soon) gets a chance to violently take on pimps and human traffickers. This book is definitely on the same level of quality as Graeney's Clancyverse books. It's renewed my interest in this series and has me looking forward to the next one.

Want to get an accessible introduction to "fracking" (short for hydraulic fracturing)? This should do nicely. This is not a technical tome--far from it. It is a well written book aimed at a general audience. If you want a solid scientific analysis, this is not the book for you. But, if you wish to get a sense of what is at stake, this would be quite useful.The author had family land in Pennsylvania in the Marcellus Shale region (a large pool of underground natural gas). This is a personal story of his effort to learn about fracking--its history, its positive economic effects, its effects on the environment, its effects on the land. One aspect of this work struck me as positive: it is a balanced work. Russell Gold, the author, does not take sides in an overt manner. By the end of this book, I felt that I had learned quite a bit about fracking as a technique and its effects (positive and negative).In the process, one also gets a sense of the major figures in the development of the technique, such as Aubrey McClendon. There were quite a few swashbucklers, like McClendon, who tried to develop their companies as rapidly as possible. Others were more cautious. The examination of a series of key figures humanizes the book, giving us a sense of the personal side of this issue.The final chapter tries to provide an even handed analysis of fracking and its effects. Whether the author succeeds will be up to the readers to decide.
I enjoyed this book. It accomplished what I set out for which was a better understanding of modern fracking. The author gave a good inside perspective of how his parent interacted with the drilling companies. The book did dry up towards the end and the last chapters dragged and blurred together. Again the book gave me exactly what I was looking for with the education on fracking and the industry.
I'm really glad I read this book - I don't know much about fracking but wanted to get a better sense of what it was and how it has transformed this country's energy outlook. This is a perfect book for people who want to learn more about the processes, personalities and politics behind fracking in the US. Would love to see more from this author.
For years I have lived right in the middle of the fracking business and never really knew what it was. One of my sons-in-law works in it and I still didn't know what it was. This book reveals the whole thing from Day One, naming names and pointing out where they went wrong and where they went right. There is some humor, some irony and a wealth of good story telling in the volume. Any Anywhere there is oil, even in YOUR backyard, there could be fracking which could make you a millionaire. You owe it to yourself and your heirs to read this book! ... besides, you'll have a lot of fun doing it!
As a Pennsylvanian I have been subjected to endless bulletin boards and radio ads touting the benefits of Range Oil and Chesapeake Oil and natural gas their companies extract. This well documented book is a must read for those interested in how the fracking boom came to be. The other side of the beneficent coin is terrifying indeed. Read it and weep.
